Role Overview
We’re looking for a Back-End Developer to build services for our games and the in-house tools behind the studio. You’ll help turn product needs into clear APIs, reliable data models and systems that can evolve with our games and team.
This role focuses on backend engineering, working closely with game and tool developers. Our approach combines AI-assisted development with human judgment, careful data handling and ownership of the systems we create.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement and maintain APIs and backend services for games and internal studio workflows.
- Model player, game and operational data with clear contracts, validation and appropriate access boundaries.
- Build and improve relational data models, migrations, indexes and queries, with attention to consistency and performance.
- Implement authentication, authorization and secure data access for the products you work on.
- Collaborate with Unity and frontend developers on service integration, error handling and API evolution.
- Support live operations, analytics and connected studio tools through dependable integrations and data flows.
- Develop tests, observability and deployment workflows that make services easier to operate and troubleshoot.
- Use AI assistants and agents to research, implement, debug and document work; review the results and verify behavior before delivery.
- Contribute to architecture decisions, code reviews and documentation, balancing reliability with the needs of a lean studio.
Requirements
- 4+ years of professional backend development experience, with responsibility for services used in practice.
- Strong programming, data modeling and API design skills, including asynchronous work and failure handling.
- Hands-on experience with relational databases, SQL, schema migrations and query optimization.
- An understanding of authentication, authorization, secure API design and data privacy.
- Experience testing, deploying, monitoring and debugging backend services.
- An AI-first working mindset: practical experience using coding assistants or agents, preparing context and turning requirements into verifiable tasks.
- The ability to understand and review AI-assisted code, verify its behavior and take responsibility for security, correctness and maintainability.
- Careful handling of source code, credentials and player or company data when working with AI tools.
- Clear communication, an interest in learning our stack and the ability to work across product and engineering concerns.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Rust, PostgreSQL or building APIs for internal tools.
- Experience with live game services, player progression, economies or game telemetry.
- Familiarity with Unity integration, HTTP APIs or gRPC.
- Experience with event-driven processing, caching, background jobs or analytics pipelines.
- Experience with CI/CD, containers, cloud or self-hosted infrastructure.
- Experience improving team workflows with AI agents, automation and shared technical documentation.
